Thai volleyball chose Libero as captain, 'unique' in Volleyball Nations League 2023

As the only representative of Southeast Asia to attend the world's leading volleyball tournament Volleyball Nations League 2023, the Thai women's volleyball team received a lot of attention.

After announcing the list of participation in the whole tournament, the Thai Labor Federation also published the list of participation in the first week of the tournament. Unexpectedly, the Thai team brings its strongest squad.

The top stars of Thai women's volleyball such as Ajcharaporn, Chatchu-on, Pimpichaya, Thatdao, Hattaya … all appear. Besides, the return of the two Pornpun Guedpard passes after injury.

Notably, the captain's armband was given to Libero veteran Piyanut Pannoy. This is the second tournament of Libero No. 1 Thailand received this honor after the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia earlier this month.

Unlike many other teams, Thai women's volleyball often replaces the captain as a way of gratitude to their pillars. And at VNL 2023, Thailand is the only team for Libero to be the captain.

According to the new competition law, the captain's armband can be given to the position of Libero. This is a great improvement compared to the past when Libero was the only position on the pitch could not take on the role of captain.

However, not many volleyball teams give Libero this honor.
