In the last match of Week 1, the Japanese male volleyball team won 3-1 to the French team. France is the reigning champion of VNL as well as the owner of the Tokyo Olympic gold medal.
Although the opponent did not bring the strongest squad, Yuki Ishikawa's victory and his teammates were still highly appreciated when the Japanese team was the strongest in recent years.
The Japanese men's volleyball team closed the first week with 4 matches against Ira, Serbia, Bulgaria and France through which at the top of the Volleyball Nations League 2023.
Japan is also the only men's volleyball team to win up to the present time. Behind Japan, there are 5 teams with 3 wins including the United States, Argentina, Slovenia, Brazil and Poland.
Up to 7 teams have 1 victory, Bulgaria, Iran, France, Cuba, Germany and the last two teams are China and Canada. Compared to female content, the tournament for men is much more balanced and unpredictable.
