The world volleyball village covered with a painful color when the legend of Kenya women's volleyball in particular and Africa in general – Janet Wanja died of gallbladder cancer.

She discovered her illness after returning from the Paris Olympic Games in August with the Kenya women's volleyball team. Only 4 months later, she died after a short time quickly fighting with the disease.

This information immediately became the focus of world volleyball fans. A lot of mourning was sent to her as well as her family when Janet Wanja left when she was 40 years old.

Janet Wanja's brother Kevin Kimani – a football player in his hometown expressed his deep gratitude to the family with the support that his sister received during the healing period.

Janet Wanja was born in 1994, possesses a height of only 1.75m but is the one who holds the soul in the play of Kenya women's volleyball team when playing in the second position.

She attended the Athens Olympic Games and helped the home team to finish the tournament with the 11th place.

President Kenya William Ruto also recorded Janet Wanja's great contributions to Kenya sports, praising her as a discipline and talent, who brought pride to his country.
